Air Conditioning Replacement and Installation

If you’re looking to replace your current air conditioning system with a new one, there are several things to keep in mind before pulling the trigger. The main thing to consider is that you select an AC contractor that knows what they’re doing and won’t sell you something you don’t need. Every set up has a unique demand and there are different solutions for different homes. Everything we do is completely customized in order to ensure optimal performance and cool air delivery to your home!

Don’t Buy an Oversized AC System

Many people think “bigger is better” as this is how we were trained when growing up, or they’ve read about funny rules of thumb that unqualified contractors have come up with like the myth that we should have “400 square foot per ton” of air conditioning. The reality is, this doesn’t apply to AC equipment and bigger is actually a lot worse. What happens is what we call “short-cycling”. The system will turn off, and on, and off, and on with very little time in between the on-off cycles. Short cycling an air conditioner will actually decrease the lifespan of your equipment because there’s much more wear and tear on the compressor with this type of operation. In addition, a bigger compressor uses more energy and also costs more upfront. All of this combined will actually increase the likelihood of uncomfortable rooms in your home and inadquate airflow.

Measure and Calculate

The only way to truly know the correct size system for your home is to complete a full load calculation. We use Manjual J, which is an ACCA approved software. But the calculation is only as good as the user, as you can substantially change the output by tinkering with the inputs in the software. That’s why it’s important that you trust your energy efficiency and comfort adviser’s abilities to provide you with the best soluation possible for your home. If a slick salesman doesn’t know how to size equipement, how can you trust them? We certainly wouldn’t!

Trusted Brand

We’re not specifically biased against any brand as we truly believe that the quality of the installation plays the biggest role in success when it comes to AC equipment replacement, but we have had great success with Trane equipment. The main reason being that the equipment from our experience has less failures than other brands, which gives you peace of mind (and us)! In the unlikely event a system we install does have an issue, Trane’s support and response times for their Trane Comfort Specialist dealers (which we are) is phenomenal. Which is what you want – you want a brand and a contractor that will stand behind their work and product, and that is what you get with Trane. In addition, Trane equipment is made right here in the United States so you know you’re doing your part to support our local economy the best you can!

100% Satisfaction Guarantee!

We’re proud to offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee for all our new home performance retrofits that include a heating or cooling install. We guarantee satisfaction by addressing duct leakage, over-sizing issues (which most contractors don’t address), correct refrigerant charge, proper airflow throughout the home, and more. Our customers enjoy being in the top 10% of quality installs, since studies have shown that 90% of units tested exhibit some sort of energy-wasting, comfort-robbing problem.

Rebates and Financing Promotions

SRP Increased their AC Rebates – February 1st, 2019!

Starting on February 1st, 2019, SRP increased their AC rebate structure in order to further incentivize higher energy efficient (multi-stage) and mini-split (also known as ductless) systems!

The chart below depicts the breakdown and qualification criteria breakdown for the SRP rebates:

   Rebate per tonRebate per ton
 CompressorSEERHeat PumpAC
Good:Single stage16+$75$75
Better:Dual stage16+$150$150
Best:Variable capacity16+$225$225
Best:Inverter-driven mini-split16+$225N/A

Central AC, Heat Pump and Mini-Split (Ductless)

All SRP Cool Cash rebates are paid at 1/2 ton. For example, if you need a 3.5 ton system and choose to go with a variable capacity system, the rebate amount you’d be eligible for would be $787.50. Example: 3.5 (tons) X $225 = $787.50.

All SRP rebates are taken off of the final price. This means you just pay the net cost for the new installation of the heating and air conditioning equipment, Ideal Energy files the rebates for you, and we wait for them to come in the mail! That way you are not stuck waiting for the rebates in order to make things as easy and cost effective as possible for you!

The rebates are applicable to customers that are in single family detached, single family or apartment / condo attached (up to four units attached only – aka quadplex), or mobile homes. Any dwelling that has more than five dwellings attached does not qualify for the SRP Cool Cash Rebates.

All of our systems are sized right with a load calculation (Manual J) in order to ensure longevity, comfort and performance your new AC system for years to come!  You can expect to see a savings on an annual basis by replacing your air conditioning equipment between $3600 – $9150 depending on what kind of system you currently have installed.

SRP Increases Insulation and Duct Sealing Rebates!

Starting November 1st, 2018, SRP has kindly increased their insulation and duct sealing rebates!

The Why:

SRP wants to encourage customers in their territory to upgrade their homes and make them more energy efficient. The logic behind this is the more energy efficient homes that exist in SRP territory, the less likely it will be for SRP to build a new power plant in order to keep up with Arizona’s demand for energy. A new power plant would cost millions more than the home performance rebates cost them. Building a new power plant would cause substantial increases in SRP rates, and no one wants that now do they? That is how valuable and impactful SRP believes insulation and duct sealing are to saving energy and ultimately lowering their customers’ energy bills.

The new rebate structures are as follows:

  • Insulation rebates have increased to $600 (from $400 previously)
  • Duct sealing rebates have increased to $400 per duct system on single family homes (previously $250)
  • Duct sealing rebates have increased to $300 per duct system on townhomes and duplexes (previously only $200)

Who Qualifies?

These rebates are only available to SRP customers that have completed an official energy audit through an approved SRP contractor like Ideal Energy! To access the rebates, give us a call and we can schedule one of our expert energy auditors to test your home for building leakage, duct leakage, insulation and AC energy efficiency. Once we complete a thorough evaluation of your home, you can qualify for the rebates (sorry, SRP won’t give out rebates to those outside of their program).

How it Works

The way it works is you just pay the net cost (total cost of project, minus the rebates) and Ideal Energy will submit all the required rebate paperwork for you. The energy efficiency rebates just go directly to our company – that way, you don’t have to wait 6 weeks for SRP to send the rebate checks in the mail, Ideal Energy will wait for you!

A big thank you to SRP for looking out for customer’s in their service territory and for keeping the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program strong in Arizona!

Is your house energy efficient? How do you know? All the signs are there

It’s no secret that summer is in full swing in Phoenix, Arizona. With summer temperatures rising comes also the rise of people’s SRP and APS bills. So how do you know if your home is energy efficient? Here are a few signs to look for that may indicate your home needs some help in the energy efficiency department:

  1. Your energy bills cost you over 10 cents per square foot. For example, your home is 2000 square feet and your SRP or APS bill is $260 in the peak of the summer. That is 13 cents per square foot. This home has good potential to save some money off of their energy bills by making the home more energy efficient by completing some energy efficiency measures like duct sealing, air sealing, insulation, variable speed pool pump  upgrade, exterior window shading, or even a new AC system. Determining what the best measures are for this home can be discovered by having Ideal Energy perform a full energy audit  on the home!
  2. There are certain rooms in your home that are hotter or colder than others. This common issue is often overlooked by homeowners as people tend to just get accustomed to living in an uncomfortable, hot home. Often times, comfort issues and temperature differentials in a home can be a result of leaking or poorly designed ductwork and improperly installed or inadequate insulation levels. If your home has such issues, there’s a high chance it’s lacking when it comes to energy efficiency and can likely benefit from having our company perform an energy audit!
  3. Your return where you put the filter in is loud and sucks the filter up fast. In our Phoenix, AZ housing stock, returns are often severely undersized, which decreases the airflow of an air conditioning system and can raise static pressure. These types of issues are detrimental for a home’s SRP and APS energy bills and can lead to serious comfort issues. If this sounds like your home you’d likely be a great candidate for an energy audit!
  4. Your AC vents have dust streaks coming out of the sides of them. A duct system should be a closed loop system if it’s sealed right, which means there should be no way dust can enter or leave the ductwork. If you have streaks on the walls by your AC registers, it can mean that you have some duct leakage. We can find out for sure with a duct leakage test, which is one of the tests performed during our energy audits.
  5. You put your hand up to the ceiling drywall and the drywall feels hot. If your drywall feels hot, it is very likely the attic has some missing insulation up there. If you want to know exactly what the temperature is of that area, you can always purchase a heat sensing gun from your local hardware store.
  6. Your temperature split is way too low. If you went to the extent of purchasing a heat sensing gun, you can check what we refer to as temperature split. To start, set your thermostat as low as it’ll go and let it coast there for a while. Take your heat sensing gun and measure the output at a supply register that is relatively close to where the return is. Then take this same reading at the return. The difference between those two numbers should be 20 degrees. If it’s 15 degrees or lower, you likely have some issues with your air conditioning system not being able to adequately cool your home. If this sounds like your home, you’re best off calling us for an AC check up to determine the exact cause of the issue.

These are just some of the key indicators to look out for to determine if your home is energy efficient or not. With utility prices rising, now is the perfect time to start taking control of your bills to ensure your home is optimized and performing properly. If you have questions or want an expert to take a look for you, give us a call at 480-839-0082!

Rebate Structure Changes for APS Customers Coming in January 2018

Attention APS Customers!

Yesterday, all energy efficiency contractors were informed of some rebate changes that will be effective January 1st, 2018. The rebate changes are as follows:

Duct Sealing Rebates

From now on, only the contractors under the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program will be allowed to participate in APS’ duct sealing program. The rules are a customer must complete an official APS Home Performance with ENERGY STAR energy audit to qualify for the $250 duct sealing rebate through APS.

Western Cooling Control Rebates

The same rules apply here – the only contractors allowed to offer the $70 Western Cooling Control rebate through APS are the contractors that work under the APS Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program.

Official Energy Audit Costs

All official APS Home Performance with ENERGY STAR contractors have until January 1st, 2018 to offer the $99 Home Performance with ENERGY STAR energy audits. The $99 fee has been a requirement for the last 7 years, but starting January 1st, 2018, the price of an official energy audit will be increasing as the energy audits will not longer be subsidized by APS.

We still have two weeks to get these audits in at the $99 cost! So take advantage of the low prices, and call us today at 480-839-0082 to schedule your official APS Home Performance with ENERGY STAR energy audit!

Phoenix Zoo Animals Having Fun with Trane AC Boxes!

Every now and then, we come accross a situation where our services and products can help our local community in some manner without us even being aware of it!

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of installing a couple high performing, highly energy efficient Trane XV18 Tru Comfort AC systems on a home. A few days later, we received an email from our customer stating she had given the giant boxes her new AC equipment came in to the Phoenix Zoo to use for some of the zoo animals as behavior enrichment!

Behavior enrichment helps to improve the quality of life for animals that are held in captivity by providing random, environmental stimuli that helps them to be more active and to make choices which is necessary for their psychological well being! We are big animal lovers here at Ideal Energy, so you can imagine, we really got a kick out of this and think it’s a great use of parts of our products that we normally would have recycled or tossed away! We hope you enjoy these images as much as we do!
